Why choose Sperry Tents over other ‘Sailcloth’ type tents?
We are proud to be the only supplier of Sperry Tents in Yorkshire and Scotland. Sperry Tents are the original sailcloth tents and are manufactured in Massachusetts, where each element is beautifully handcrafted. We are often asked what the difference is between our Sperry Tents and other Sailcloth tents? There have been an influx of imitation products over the last 3 to 4 years so hopefully the below information will help differentiate between them.
Our Sperry Tents are made from genuine Sailcloth which differs from the other ‘Sailcloth Tents’ on the market. Often these tents are made from vinyl which has a tell-tale sheen, scent and the potential for imperfect factory made seems which are often joined via ‘Dutch Stitching’. This particular method is much less durable than the single construction of a Sperry Tent.
Our Sailcloth is Ivory (oyster) coloured and not stark white like other similar tents. This makes our canvas breathable, translucent to sunlight and event lighting which gives our Sperry Tents the trademark #sperryglow.
Sperry Tents are often a little more expensive than the other sailcloth products but this is mainly due to the fact each one is lovingly hand-made by the Sperry family in their factory in coastal Massachusetts. The warehouse is not a warehouse at all but a solar-fed, environmentally friendly post-and-beam barn. Sperry’s exclusivity allowing only the best in the industry to purchase and erect their tents means a higher priced tent with superior detail and much more elegant aesthetics.
Sperry Tents are built and designed with over 30 years of innovation, testing and refinement to give you full confidence in the structural stability of our Sperry tents. Sailcloth tents were initially known as fair-weather tents and within the industry this has caused some distress as Sperry Tents are far from just fair-weather tents!
Sperry Tents have a much higher wind rating than other imitation products
